When filming drone videos, your footage should use long smooth movements, be well framed, and be exported in the highest quality. This guide will show you how to fly your drone to meet LGCY Power’s content guidelines.

If you meet these guidelines, your footage may be featured on LGCY Power’s social media channels and/or website.

Drone Settings - Cinematic Mode:

To make sure you get smooth shots, put your drone in cinematic mode.

This mode will make your drone fly slower, but it will help prevent fast, jerky filming.

This setting can be found in the top left corner of your phone screen when you are connected to the drone. Make sure it says “C” for cinematic.

Drone Settings - Video Settings:

To get the highest quality footage, make sure you are shooting in 2.7k or higher and 30fps.

Drone Settings - Quick Shots:

Use Quick shots to get preprogrammed cinematic shots of the home. Only use “Circle” and “Dronie” when using this function.

To select the subject that the drone will be flying around, click and drag a green box around the house, like this (see following slide). You can then start the quick shot and it will automatically begin it’s flight path and record the footage.

Lighting

Try to film your drone footage during sunrise golden hour or sunset golden hour.

At these times, the light is the softest and most aesthetically pleasing on the home.

Filming in the middle of the day results in hard and unflattering light.

Filming in low light will make the footage grainy and poor quality.

Framing

Frame the house so that the home fills up the majority of the frame and the solar panels are clearly in view. Make sure you, and the drone operator, are not in view.

Example of bad framing:

In this shot, the drone is too far away, the house is not centered in frame, and the panels are not clearly visible. This shot has too much going on, making it hard to define a clear subject for the viewer to focus on.

Example of good framing (and lighting):

In this shot, the home takes up the majority of the frame, the solar panels are clearly visible, and it is shot at sunset golden hour which is providing a nice key light on the panels.

When filming, get a variety of shots so the media team can create a short but engaging edit with the footage.

For example, you can circle around the house, fly towards the house, and fly from low to high on the house.

Just remember to keep the house as the main subject in the frame, and film long, smooth, continuous flight paths.

Company Vehicle

If you want to include a company vehicle in your footage, make sure it has been wrapped in LGCY Power’s new branding. You can tell if your vehicle has the appropriate branding if the bolt logo is in color, and the G in LGCY looks like an arrow. If you’r still unsure, check out our current branding at lgcypower.com/brand.

If your company vehicle’s branding is using the old logo, make sure it is not highlighted in the footage.

This vehicle has LGCY Power’s current branding and can be used in the video.

Exporting Footage

Only export your drone footage to your computer. Exporting to your phone will compress the footage resulting in poor quality.

To export to your computer, either remove the micro SD card, put it in an adapter and connect it to your computer, or attach a USB cord from your drone to your computer.

A Folder from the memory card will then appear on your desktop. Open the folder, click DCIM, click 100MEDIA, and select the items that end in .mp4 or .mov (see following slide.)

Then, click and drag the media on to your computer. Now you can upload the footage to this dropbox link:
